Good News to Share

Congratulations to Maggie Bailey's son, Cullen, who is getting married on Saturday, September 13 to Colleen at the Bailey's lovely home!  Maggie is not only hosting the wedding, but also the rehearsal dinner on Friday evening!  Best wishes to the new couple!

Deltas to Rachel Hockemeyer, who has a new job.  She is now teaching 6th Grade Language Arts at Harvard Middle School, which is exactly what she wanted to teach, and her commute is much shorter!

Congratulations to Mary Frazier's daughter, Julia, who graduated from Central High School in May and is now a Freshman at the University of Iowa.  Mary said "Julia has never been happier, and she just pledged a sorority, Alpha Xi Delta!"

Deltas to Bette Chwalisz, who is now job sharing her Kindergarten class part-time, and is also back working part-time in Speech Pathology.  She enjoys having a few afternoons off each week to help take care of her Mom and run errands!

Congratulations to Kara Curran's daughter, Lara, who graduated from Prairie Ridge High School in May and is now attending Colby College in Waterville, Maine.  Kara said "she loves it there and is happy to be playing on their tennis team." 

Deltas to Heather Everst on her graduation from Lake Forest College.  Heather is now working in Chicago at Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM), which is a consortium of liberals arts colleges, including Lake Forest, which run study abroad programs for the schools.  Way to go!

Congratulations to Debbie Waterson on her completion of several certification courses in Emergency/Trauma Nursing.  She will soon begin work towards her TNS, Trauma Nurse Specialist certification!  Also, congrats to Debbie and her husband, Pete, on their newest venture - they are part owners in the new SportsCity Academy scheduled to open this November in Woodstock. It's a sports (baseball, softball)training facility.  Check out their website at www.sportscityacademy.com!

Good News to Share

Congratulations to Gloria Finnerty, who completed her training on Christmas Eve and is now a Captain with American Eagle Airlines!   This is a huge accomplishment, considering out of the roughly 11,600 pilots with American Airlines, only 4.3% are female, and out of the 3,950 Captains, only 60 or 1.5% are female.  Gloria has been flying for 12 years.  Great job! 

Deltas to Jennifer Johnson, who was promoted to National Sales Manager last summer with her firm, USAdvisors Network.  She is now responsible for all the revenue generating areas, including recruiting, training, events, marketing, and financial institution relationships.  Jennifer also recently accepted a Board Member position with the United Way of McHenry County.  She also recently connected with two Deltas from college via a website called LinkedIn.  Check it out!  During Jennifer's "spare" time, she teaches Religious Education, sings in the church choir, serves as Secretary for the Johnsburg Education Partnership Foundation, and also serves on the Marketing and Curriculum committees for Leadship of Greater McHenry County.  Whew!! Talk about involved!  My goodness!  I'm tired just typing all this up!

Congratulations to Blaine Brannon, who graduated on January 6, 2008 with her Master's Degree in Teaching and Leadership.  Way to go!

Congratulations to Sue and Matt Hochmuth on celebrating their 10th Anniversary in April.  They are looking forward to spending a long weekend together in Mexico!

Deltas to Jennifer and Jerry Kolarczyk who are celebrating their 20th Anniversary on April 23rd.  They are heading to Riviera Maya, Mexico for a little R & R! 

 

Congratulations to the Streit Family

Jenny Streit had to miss Pansy Breakfast this year for a very exciting and honoring event.  She also could not give her excuse beforehand.  Now that the surprise occurred she can share the wonderful news.  The morning of our Pansy Breakfast it was Opening Day for Little League in Crystal Lake.  The League honored her husband, John, for his years of service by naming a field after him. Jenny was there (as were her boys, to catch the first pitches thrown out by their dad) She sang the National Anthem,and the League President gave a very nice speech about John, etc. So now there is a Streit Field at Lippold! click on www.clall.org for photos!

Baby Hochmuth

Congratulations and Welcome Colin Edward to the Hochmuth Family.  Colin was born on April 26th weighing in at 9 pounds 7 ounces and 22 1/2 inches long.  Everyone is healthy and doing well.

Pansies to Crystal Lake Central Poms

Great big Pansies to Mary Frazier's daughter Julia and the rest of the Crystal Lake Central Varsity Tiger Poms...they were double state champs once again this year.  The squad won the AA Pom and AA Open Pom Championship down in Peoria on Feb 25!!!  Way to go!

Volunteer Ideas

Leadership Greater McHenry County

  Jennifer Johnson is part of this program.  The program was created to develop community leaders.  It is in it’s third year, I was part of the graduating class of 2006.  The program is limited to 40 participants coming from all walks of life: government, non-profit, healthcare, private industry, banking, ministry, education, law enforcement, etc.  The opening presentation by Mike Easley, President/CEO of Centegra Health Systems challenged my class to not just live in the community but become an engaged community member.  This message really resonated with me, because I don’t just want to be a parent of my children, but be an active, contributing community member.  In the beginning there is a retreat that focuses on leadership and developing teams with in the class.  Throughout the fall and into the winter there are program days, for my class we were able to look deeper into education, government, healthcare and leadership as viewed by some of the most well-known leaders in McHenry County .  This year they have replaced the healthcare day with a day focused on law and justice.  For the remainder of the program (January – May) there are Challenge Days where the teams determined during the retreat are challenged with hosting a day educating and engaging the rest of the class.  Our day focused on things each of us could do to live a more energy conscious life.  Other days focused on social services, water preservation and the reclamation issues facing the county, another focused on the arts in McHenry County .  I could go on all day, all in all, this is a fantastic program and I encourage anyone looking to get more involved in their community to look into Leadership Greater McHenry County.  The cost for participation is $2,000 and can be funded by a company, individual or through a possible scholarship.  This would be the best $2,000 you could spend.  Not only would you meet fantastic people, learn about the county, but also learn ways to really make a difference.  If anyone has questions, I am ready and able to answer any questions.  I can be reached at 815.385.2080 (home) or at work 815.459.4550, ext. 128.

Volunteer Ideas

The Glass Slipper Project

Carolyn Quinn has been asked to help with the Glass Slipper Project.  They are a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that collects racks of prom dresses and accessories.  High school girls who would otherwise not be able to afford prom can come and find a beautiful gown with accessories and even make up.  Each young lady is matched with a volunteer who attends them and helps with the shopping event.  That group of volunteers are called “fairy godmothers.”
