On this day in 1892, Tri Delta founded its very first alumnae chapter (then called an alliance). To honor alumnae chapters throughout the world, August 29th is now known as Alliance Day.
To honor the past 115 years of alumnae members, I ask you to do one or more of the following:
* Wear your pin or other Tri Delta jewelry.
* Reflect on how Tri Delta supported you and changed you over the years.
* Think back to your first alumnae chapter meeting. Why did you go? Who did you meet?
* Take a moment to tell a fellow alumnae member that she is important to you and how she has positively impacted your life.
* Sing a Tri Delta song.
*Consider the purpose of Tri Delta. How has it guided you through the years?
The first part of Delta Delta Delta's Purpose was written at the turn of the 20th century. The second part of our Purpose was added in 1956 to reflect Tri Delta's increased emphasis on social contribution outside her own membership.
The Purpose of Delta Delta Delta shall be: To establish a perpetual bond of friendship among its members, To develop a stronger and more womanly character, To broaden the moral and intellectual life, To assist its members in every possible way.
It shall also be the Purpose of Delta Delta Delta: To promote and develop mutually beneficial relationships between the Fraternity and the colleges and universities where the Fraternity has established chapters, To develop qualities of unselfish leadership among its members, To encourage them to assume, with integrity and devotion to moral and democratic principles, the highest responsibilities of college women.
