Philanthropy Update

Many, many thanks to everyone who participated in our first CCC Holiday Giving Tree.  I was able to meet with Barb Williams (Rachel's Mom) on December 9 while the kids were in school, and she and I both got a bit tearful when I arrived with my arms filled with all your gifts, which totaled $650 in gift cards and $300 in toys! She was so excited by all the gifts, which helped them give the kids everything they wanted for Christmas, as well as gifts for Greg's (her brother) birthday.  They even got the kids a Wii! Barb has had a tough couple of Christmas' and was not looking forward to the holidays this year, but it sounds like this one turned out wonderful, and we helped with that!  She sends us her sincere thanks and gratitude for thinking of them and being so generous during these difficult times!

Rachel is currently ill with a fever, which they believe is just the flu going around.  She also is still suffering from a rash, but they seen to be getting it a bit under control.  Other than that, she is in school and doing well.  Please continue to hold her in your prayers that she may remain in remission!

Thanks again for your generous donations and gifts.  It was truly wonderful to be able to support this family is this way.  Keep your eye out for our upcoming Shop & Share Flower Sale in the spring.  With this cold and snowy weather, I cannot wait for Spring to come!

Philanthropy Update

Thanks to everyone who supported our various fundraising efforts last year, including our Poinsettia Sale, Silent Auction, and Spring Shop and Share. Together we raised $1,210 for CCC and Delta Dollars.  With this money, we were able to help the following organizations:

Delta Delta Delta Foundation  $160

St. Jude's Children's Hospital  $ 50

Local CCC Family                 $600

Children's Oncology Services - One Step at a Time Camp $200

Hospice of Northeastern Illinois Camp Courage  $200

CCC News

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jennifer Kolarczyk for all of her hard work for CCC over the past four years.  She has done a tremendous job and I hope to continue this success with your help in supporting me in my office.  Jennifer is certainly a tough act to follow!

Last year's fundraisers were very successful, raising more than $2000 for CCC and Delta Dollars.  As a result of our fundraising efforts we were able to donate $1280 to the Edge family, $700 to One Step at a Time Camp, $260 to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois/Camp Courage, and $50 to St. Jude.  In July several of our members and their children gathered at Camp Courage (see separate article in the Pansy Post) to assist in cleanup on the last day of camp.

On October 16th we will be meeting at Come and Dish in Algonquin for a fun new event.  Rather than a traditional fundraiser, we will be assembling meals to donate to our CCC family, as well as making a few for our own families.  Intrigued?  Check out the website at comeanddish.com to learn more.  It's sure to be a great evening!

We will once again be conducting our Poinsettia Sale to benefit Children's Cancer Charities.  Order forms will be emailed to you November 1st and all orders are due by November 16th.  The poinsettia pick-up day will be Saturday, December 1st at Countryside from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m.  Our Shop-N-Share day will also be on Saturday, December 1st.

Our silent auction to benefit both CCC and Delta Dollars will be held at our Spring Mixer in March.  This is always a fun evening so look for more details in upcoming Pansy Posts.

Finally, our Spring Shop-N-Share Days at Countryside are May 23 and 24th.  Kick off your Memorial Day weekend by purchasing your bedding and container plants, mulch and other landscaping needs and help out CCC at the same time!

Camp Courage

On July 12, 2007, several Tri-Deltas helped clean up the Camp Courage cabin at YMCA Camp Duncan.  While the counselors, campers and their families were attending the tree planting memorial closing ceremony, we put away the refreshments, organized the art supplies and cleaned up the room.  It was a beautiful day and everyone enjoyed pitching in!  Many thanks to Mary Frazier, Linda Bowen and her girls, Debbie Waterson and her boys, and Jennifer Kolarczyk and her kids.  Each year, the counselors are so grateful for our help after a busy week with the children!  If you haven't participated in this wonderful outreach effort before, I hope you'll plan on joining us next July 2008.

Spring Shop & Share Days in May for CCC

It's Spring and time to get out and fill our gardens with beautiful flowers, perennials, shrubs and trees.  Mark your calendars for Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19 to shop at Countryside Flowershop, Nursery and Garden Center.  They will donate 10% of your total purchases to Children's Cancer Charities, which directly supports a local family who has a child fighting cancer, Camp Courage, and One Step at a Time Camp.  Simply present the attached coupons to the cashier upon checkout.

The Shop & Share coupons are good on all merchandise including trees, shrubs, perennials, ornamental grasses, annuals, vegetables, herbs, top soil, mulch, lawn care, statuaries, and garden center gifts.  So please share with your friends and neighbors.

Mia's update

Mia Edge's situation has become even more desperate since the holidays.  She needs a critical surgical procedure, which is scheduled for today,  Valentine's Day.  With the family in need, we are donating to the family immediately.  60% of the funds raised from the poinsettia sale is being given to the Edge family.  The total financial donation will be $650.  Jennifer Kolarczyk is forwarding it to them with a card and our prayers. 

Let keep Mia and her family in our prayers.

4th Annual Poinsettia Sale a Success

Happy New Year Deltas!  Thanks to everyone for their support of our 4th Annual Poinsettia Sale.  While we actually sold more plants this year (159), the snow storm on December 1 sure put a damper on things!  We had to delay the delivery of 66 plants to Woods Creek School, and there were very few shoppers at Countryside on Saturday. So our Shop & Share profit was way down this year.  Despite mother nature, we still made $1,093 profit for Children's Cancer Charities!  This money will be divided and distributed to Mia Edge, Camp Courage and One Step at a Time Camp.

On a very sad note, Mia's cancer has completely returned, and her family is trying to decide what their next course of action will be.  Please hold Mia and her family in your prayers - they need a miracle.  Her family recently posted an update on her website,  www.miaedge.com. 

Poinsettia Sale

Keep a look out for the Poinsettia Sale information coming to you by email very soon.  The sale benefits our CCC causes and the pick up day is on Saturday December 2nd.

Philanthropy and Community Services

The past year has been a successful fund-raising year for our chapter, and I'd like to thank everyone for their continued support of all our events and activities.  During  the course of the year, from 2005 to August 2006, together we raised $3,687 for CCC and $773 for Delta Dollars, totaling $4,460.  In addition, our chapter was once again involved in community service by cleaning up Camp Courage in July, thanks to Mary Frazier and her daughter, Julia.

With the funds raised we have made the following donations/allocations to date:  The O'Malley Family $1,250; Hospice of Northeastern Illinois Camp Courage $ 260; One Step at a Time Camp- Children's Oncology Services $700; St Jude Hospital $50; Delta Delta Delta Foundation Crescent Fund $250; Collegiate Support $500.  The total of funds allocated to date is $3,010. 

This coming year, I hope you'll continue to support our philanthropy and community  service efforts which support so many worthwhile causes.  The new family we have "adopted" is the Edge Family, whose daughter, Mia, is fighting cancer.  Mia is an 8 year old that was in Matthew Kolarczyk's second grade class at Woods Creek School in Crystal Lake.  Her mom, Adrienne, is touched by our offer to help.  Jennifer Kolarczyk will be giving a short presentation about Mia at our September meeting.  But in the mean time, you may visit her website at www.miaedge.com.

Our fourth annual Poinsettia Sale for CCC will be held in November, with orders due at Founder's Day and poinsettia pick-up on Saturday, December 2nd from 9 - 12 at Countryside Florists in Crystal Lake.  In February don't miss our 2nd Annual Casino Night Couple's Party and Silent Auction.  In March, a representative from Hospice will do a presentation on Camp Courage in preparation for our annual clean-up day in July.  We have also invited a representative from One Step at a Time Camp, a camp for children with cancer, to speak to us.  Finally, plan to kick-off your spring gardening with our Spring Shop and Share on Friday May 18 and Saturday May 19 at Countryside Florist in Crystal Lake.

Nick's Pizza Fund Raiser

Next week, on Tuesday, June 13,  we're having our 2nd annual CCC Fundraising Day at Nick's Pizza and Pub in Crystal Lake.  The Flyler must  must be presented in order for us to get credit.  Please forward and/or print and share with all your friends, neighbors, family, etc.
